Community Service

At the College of the Holy Cross, the athletic department prides itself on giving back to the local community. Student-athletes, coaches and other members of the athletic staff participate in a variety of activities throughout the year.

Below is a listing of activities where Holy Cross athletic teams have been involved in community service projects during the 2008-2009 school year.

Baseball

  • The team initiated a relationship with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

    Men's Basketball

  • November 2008 - The team, along with Coaches Sanchez and Daiganault, spoke at the 5 Worcester High School Athletic Wellness Meetings as part of the Education and Youth Workshops held in the city throughout the month.
  • January 10, 2009 - The team hosted a Post-Game Clinic. Photo Gallery

    Women's Basketball

  • September 28, 2008 - The team took part in the annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
  • October 13, 2008 - Coach Gibbons and members of the team went trick-or-treating at the Mercy Centre.
  • December 10, 2008 - Coach Gibbons and members of the team attended a Fundraising event for the Mercy Centre and Coral Seafood in Worcester.
  • January 13, 2009 - The team held their annual basketball game at the Mercy Centre. Photo Gallery

    Cheerleading

  • October 11, 2008 - The squad helped run the annual Pre-Game Kids' Day Clinic prior to the football game.
  • Each of the squad members maintained relationships as a big sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program of Central Mass.

    Men's Cross Country / Track & Field

  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.
  • The team maintained their relationship with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

    Women's Cross Country / Track & Field

  • September 27, 2008 - Members of the team took part in the annual Rodman Ride for Kids to raise money for children-at-risk charities.
  • September 28, 2008 - The team took part in the annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.

    Field Hockey

  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.

    Football

  • October 11, 2008 - Members of the team hosted the annual Pre-Game Kids' Day Clinic. Photo Gallery
  • Each Friday before a home game, members of the team visited various schools doing Trivia for Tickets to help get the community more involved with HC Football.
  • Members of the team took part in the YMCA After School Program on Monday afternoons at 2 local middle schools.
  • Members of the team helped out with the After School Program at the Nativity school a few days a week.
  • The team maintained their relationship with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

    Men's Ice Hockey

  • September 28, 2008 The team took part in the annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
  • November 22, 2008 - The team hosted a Post-Game Autograph Session. Photo Gallery
  • Members of team took part in the annual DEAFinitley Hockey program, a Learn-to-Skate Program on campus for deaf kids in the community.
  • Members of the team took part in Crusaders for Kids, a Big Brother program set up by the players to bring inner city kids to other sporting events on campus as well as in the community. This year trip included movies, Worcester Shark games, bowling and The Globetrotters!

    Women's Ice Hockey

  • September 28, 2008 - The team took part in the annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
  • November 7, 2008 - Stephanie Couzin, Stacey Hochkins, Jocelyn Kratchmer, Christina D'Ambrogio and Carly Dominick-Sobol held a food drive at the local Price Chopper for the Worcester County Deputy Sheriff's office annual event.
  • November 2008 - The team held a Coat Drive for the Spanish-American Society in Leominster and the Claygon Communituy Center in Fitchburg in conjunction with the Sheriff's Department in that area. They were recognized in a ceremony on December 17th for their great efforts.
  • Members of team took part in the annual DEAFinitley Hockey program, a Learn-to-Skate Program on campus for deaf kids in the community.

    Men's Lacrosse

  • Summer 2008 - Player Patrick Flynn spent time with Habitat For Humanity in Africa.
  • September 27, 2008 - Members of the team took part in the annual Rodman Ride for Kids to raise money for children-at-risk charities.
  • In memory of a former co-captain who passed away, every member of the team volunteered as John's Brothers ... mentors with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, matched with students at an ethnically diverse inner city school (Canterbury School).

    Women's Lacrosse

  • September 28, 2008 - The team took part in the annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
  • October 12, 2008 - The Team took part in the 1st Annual Catamount Classic, a lacrosse tournament with other colleges to support the fight against testicular cancer.

    Men's Rowing

  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.

    Women's Rowing

  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.

    Men's Soccer

  • November 2008 - Captain Jerry Dickinson spoke at the 5 Worcester High School Athletic Wellness Meetings as part of the Education and Youth Workshops held in the city throughout the month.
  • Members of the team volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.

    Women's Soccer

  • March 10 & 14, 2009 - The team served meals at the Mustard Seed soup kitchen. Photo Gallery
