Holy Cross Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Holy Cross baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of Washington this afternoon, losing by scores of 7-5 and 4-1. The Crusaders fall to 4-7 on the season while Washington improves to 7-6 overall.

In the first game, Holy Cross trailed 6-0 going into the sixth inning, but rallied to put five runs on the board, getting within one of the Huskies. With the bases loaded, junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) drove in an RBI on walk. On a ground out to second base, senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.), scored the second run of the inning. Senior Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.) singled through the left side, driving in another run for Holy Cross. Junior Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.) drove in the fourth run and Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I.) scored the last run of the inning on a sacrifice fly out to right field.

In game two, Holy Cross scored first, putting up a run in the second inning as junior Tim Hughes (Andover, Mass.) singled to left center field, driving in freshman Eric Oxford (Danvers, Mass.). The Huskies tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the fifth inning as Sean Meehan homered to center field. Washington secured the second win in the bottom of the seventh as Troy Scott hit a three-run homer to right field.

Gorman went 2-for-5 on the day including hitting his sixth double of the season. Freshman Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 and sophomore John Sills (Milton, Mass.) went 2-for-4 in game one.
