Baseball Loses To Boston College, 11-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -The Holy Cross baseball team fell to Boston College, 11-2, in non conference action this afternoon. The Crusaders are now 4-13 on the season while the Eagles improve to 11-11 overall and 2-7 in the ACC.

Boston College grabbed a 1-0 lead with their first chance behind the plate as Michael Belfiore reached on a fielder's choice and then scored of a single by Eric Campbell to right field.

The Crusaders grabbed their only lead of the game in the top of the third as sophomore Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) walked to start the inning and then scored on a passed ball. Senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) brought in freshman Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) on a RBI single to right field, giving Holy Cross a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles held Holy Cross scoreless for the next two innings, then picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Marc Perodios hit a leadoff double and reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Harry Darling. Belfoire hit a two RBI double to right center field, bringing in Perodios and Barry Butera, who reached first after being hit by a pitch.

Boston College's offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning, rallying in eight runs, led by Tony Sanchez who hit a three-run homer to left center field. Campbell scored another run after hitting a solo home run to left field, giving the Eagles a 11-2 win.

Senior Matt O'Brien (Hingham, Mass.) received the loss for Holy Cross after scattering seven hits and giving up five earned runs while striking out six in five and one third innings. Kevin Moran picked up the wing for the Eagles, after pitching five innings and striking out for while giving three hits and two runs.

The Crusaders return to action this weekend, March 29-30, opening Patriot League with two doubleheaders against host Lehigh. The first games of the series will begin at noon.
