Holy Cross Baseball Falls To Navy In Doubleheader

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Navy this afternoon in Patriot League action at Fitton Field, losing by scores of 8-1 and 11-7. The Crusaders fall to 2-13 overall (0-4 Patriot League), while the Midshipmen sweep the weekend series and improve to 22-9 overall (4-0 Patriot League).

In game one, Navy took a 1-0 lead when Mitch Harris hit a solo homer to right center. The Midshipmen would then score four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh for an 8-0 lead. The Crusaders scored one run in the seventh when junior Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I) hit a two-out RBI double to right field, driving in junior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) who had walked to lead off the inning. Navy's Drake Oliver earned the complete game win as he allowed one run on three hits.

In the second game, the Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first when sophomore Tyler Stampone (Meadowbrook, Pa.) hit a three-run homer over the left field fence. Navy answered back with seven runs in the top of the seventh and three in the third to take a 10-3 advantage. After the Midshipmen increased their lead to 11-3 with one run in the top of the seventh, Holy Cross scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it an 11-5 game. In the eighth, senior Matt Perron (Auburn, Mass.) hit his third double of the game to bring in freshman John Sills (Milton, Mass.). Holy Cross added a run in the bottom of the ninth for the 11-7 final score. Yale Eckert earned the win for Navy as he allowed three runs in six innings on eight hits.

Perron finished the day going 4-for-7 with a 4-for-4 and one RBI performance in the second game, while Sills went 3-for-5 on the afternoon.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Massachusetts at Fitton Field. The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
