WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross baseball team fell to Massachusetts, 4-3, this afternoon in non-conference action at Fitton Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-14 overall, while the Minutemen improve to 5-11 overall.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, the Minutemen would score three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Adam Tempesta made it a 3-1 game when he hit a one-out single down the right field line driving in Travis Munsey and Ryan Franczek. After Tempesta advanced to second on a wild pitch, he scored the eventual winning run on an error.

The Crusaders scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the UMass lead to 4-3 when senior Matt Perron (Auburn, Mass.) hit a two-out double to left field bringing in sophomore Tim Hughes (Andover, Mass.) and senior Jamie Aldrich (Stratford, Conn.). UMass' Aaron Smith held Holy Cross scoreless in the ninth to record his third save of the season.

Jim Cassidy earned the win as he allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. Cassidy is now 1-1 on the season.

The Crusaders return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 4, when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on Harvard at 3:00 p.m.
