Holy Cross Baseball Drops 5-2 Decision To Assumption

May 1, 2008

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.) drove in both runs on a two-run homer but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross baseball team fell to Assumption, 5-2, in non conference action this afternoon at Fitton Field in their regular season finale. The Crusaders fall to 20-26 on the season while the Greyhounds improve to 18-27 overall.

After a scoreless first three innings, Gomez put Holy Cross ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the fourth inning with a shot out to left field. After scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Mike RiReda to centerfield, Assumption rallied for two more runs in the top of the seventh as Mike Baillargeon hit a bases-loaded single to left field, scoring Shawn Frigon and Chris DiSomone. The Greyhounds put up a run in the top of the eighth and the top of the ninth, securing a 5-2 victory over Holy Cross.

Junior Dan Seip (North Carver, Mass.) received the loss for the Crusaders, scattering six hits and allowing three runs while striking out three. Jeff Barbale earned the win, pitching eight innings and giving up two runs on five hits while fanning four.

The Crusaders return to action May 10-11 when they travel to Navy for the Patriot League tournament. A best-of-three series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 10, while a third game is scheduled on Sunday, May 11, if necessary.
