Matt O'Brien Receives Ray Dobens Award

May 3, 2008

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior pitcher Matt O'Brien (Hingham, Mass.), a member of the Holy Cross baseball team, has received the 2008 Ray Dobens Award. The award was presented at the 53rd annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Satruday, May 3.

The Dobens Award is presented to the most improved player on the Crusader baseball team. After throwing just 22 innings during his first three years at Holy Cross, O'Brien developed into one of the Crusaders' top starting pitchers this season. He has tossed 38 innings with eight starts in 2008, and ranks third on the team with 33 strikeouts.

O'Brien has helped the Crusaders to just their third all-time Patriot League Tournament appearance, and their first 20-win season since 1980.
