During the 2006 season, Cox led his team to its first winning record in 20 years. Prior to his time at Putnam, Cox served as the wide receivers coach at North Dakota State University for three seasons. During the 2000 campaign, he helped lead the Bison to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. In the summer of 2002, Cox also served a minority coaching internship with the San Diego Chargers, working with the wide receivers. At Texas, he was on the staff for the team which won the 1998 Cotton Bowl, featuring Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams. Cox previously spent the 1995 season as an assistant coach at Overland High School in Aurora, Colo., and was the secondary coach at Fort Lewis in 1994. Cox is a 1994 graduate of Fort Lewis College, where he was a two-time first team Division II All-American, and was named the 1993 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
