Men's Hockey Falls To Yale, 2-1
Oct. 27, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale scored one goal in the first period and one in the third to edge Holy Cross 2-1 in non-conference action at the Ingalls Rink on Friday night. This was the first game of the season for the Bulldogs while the Crusaders fall to 2-3 overall. The Crusaders scored first on a power play as freshman Ryan Driscoll (Dorchester, Mass.) knocked in a rebound for his third goal of the season at 8:20 into the first period. Seconds later Yale tried to retaliate, but had no luck as freshman goaltender Ian Dams (Manotick, Ontario) had a key stop to help keep the early lead. The Bulldogs knotted the game eight minutes later in the first period, as Sean Backman grabbed a loose puck deflected off Holy Cross' last line of defense to go one-on-one with the goaltender and tie the game at 1-1. Holy Cross finished the first period with 11 shots and went 1-4 on the power play, while Yale also had 11 shots and went 0-2. The game remained tied at 1-1 through the second period. Holy Cross had five shots and went 0-4 on the mad-advantage, while the Bulldogs took six shots and went 0-2. Yale scored the game winning goal at 10:27 into the third period when Will Engasser netted a goal off a pass directly in front of the net. Dams made 22 saves and is now 1-2 on the season, while Yale's Alec Richards stopped 25 shots to earn the win. The Crusaders outshot the Bulldogs by a 26-24 margin. Holy Cross went 1-10 on the power play and they killed all five of Yale's man-advantage opportunities. Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, November 3, when they host Canisius at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m. |
