WORCESTER, Mass.- Senior Alex Cruz (Conyers, Ga.) and sophomore Felipe Castrillon (Weston, Fla.) each scored a goal as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Maine, 2-0 in non-conference action, on Saturday afternoon at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-0 overall, while the Black Bears fall to 0-4 overall. This was the first regular season men's soccer game played at the brand new stadium.

The Crusaders got on the board at just 3:02 into the game when sophomore Andreas Andrews (Los Angeles, Calif.) sent a pass from the right side of the 18 to the lower left of the goalie box, where Cruz then knocked the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

In the second half, Holy Cross increased its lead to 2-0 at the 50:59 mark when Castrillon sent a shot into the right corner of the goal with an assist by junior Sefton Kincaid (Orlando, Fla.).

Sophomore goalie Keith Bauer (Commack, N.Y.) earned the shutout as he made three saves, while Giacomo Brunino made five saves for the Black Bears. Holy Cross outshot Maine by a 12-6 margin.

The Crusaders return to action when they host St. Bonaventure at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium on Friday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m.
