Swimming & Diving Teams Swept By UConn

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming & diving teams were swept by Connecticut on Tuesday night at the Hart Center. The Crusader men were beaten 149-129 as the women fell 158-129. Holy Cross also celebrated Senior Day for 10 student-athletes that participated in the final home meet of their careers. For the men, senior Hugh Hayden (Lincolnshire, Ill.) took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.95. Freshman Matthew Grogan's (Allenwood, N.J.) was the pacesetter in the men's 200-yard IM, winning in a time of 2:08.80. Grogan also placed second overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.04. To round out the meet, the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team swam to a second place finish in 1:34.40. The Crusader women were again led by sophomore Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) as she won two individual events. Doherty was victorious in the 50-yard butterfly (27.37) and the 200-yard IM (2:19.91). She also took second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.59. Also winning an event was freshman Dana Jorgensen (New City, N.Y.), who won the 500-yard freestyle. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team was also able to pull out a victory in a time of 1:45.44. Both Holy Cross teams will return to the pool on Saturday, February 4 when they travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. |
