Crusaders Finish Third At Holy Cross Quadrangular

Worcester, Mass. - The Crusaders track and field team placed third with 115 points at the Holy Cross Quadrangular held Tuesday, April 26 at the Hart Track and Field Complex.

Freshman Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) qualified for the New England Championships after tossing 195'04' to win the javelin throw.

In the 400-meter run, junior Robert Leader (Leominster, Mass.) finished first with a personal-best outdoor time 48.96, while teammate Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.) clocked 50.21 for a personal-best time to finish fourth. Leader also competed in the 200-m, placing second with a personal-best time of 22.56. Also, running in the 200-m was senior Sean Flood (Clive, La.), who came in sixth with a time of 22.96.

Placing first in the 5,000-m was senior John Nieskens (Peterborough, N.H.), who ran the distance in 15:25.30.

In field events, Daniel Ryan (East Hempstead, N.H.) came in first in the high jump, clearing 6'05.50". He also competed in the long jump, finishing fourth with a distance of 19'11.50". Newcomer Kevin Dowd (Broad Brook, Conn.) placed sixth in the long jump, hitting 18'07.25" and third in triple jump, with a distance of 42'04.75".

The Crusaders 4x400-m relay team finished second with a time of 3:29.13. Placing third in 400-m hurdles was sophomore Christopher Bier (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) with a time of 56.43. Bier also competed in the 110-m hurdles and placed fifth with a time of 16.04.

Senior Brendan Kearney (Haddonfield, N.J.) placed fourth in the 800-m with a season-best time of 1:56.58. Sophomore Patrick Clifford (Haworth, N.J.) ran a season's-best time of 2:01.14 in the event.

Sophomore Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) threw 43'05.75" to place fourth in the shot put and 162'00" to finish fifth in the hammer throw.

Running in the 1,500-m was senior James Clifford (Haworth, N.J.), who posted a season-best time of 4:07.42 to finish fourth. His time was one second off of his personal-best. Senior Sean Dougherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) placed seventh in the event with a time of 4:12.39.

The Crusaders next compete at the Penn Relays, Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30 in Philadelphia, Pa.
