Box Score

Annapolis, Md. - Senior Maggie Fontana (Barrington, Ill.) poured in a game-high and a season high 18 points and senior center Lisa Andrews (Concord, Mass.) added 16 to lead Holy Cross to a 73-48 win over Navy Friday night at Alumni Hall. Holy Cross has now won four straight games and improves to 9-8 (4-0 Patriot League), while Navy suffers its third loss and falls to 6-11 (2-2 Patriot League).

The Crusaders went into the half up 29-18, after racing out to a 23-7 lead to open the game. Navy struggled early on the offensive end, but managed hold the Crusaders scoreless for almost seven minutes, while cutting the lead to just seven (25-18) with 3:44 left. But a Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) hoop inside, followed by an Andrews jumper at the buzzer gave HC the 11-point cushion at intermission. Holy Cross only turned the ball over five times during the first stanza, while forcing 15 Navy turnovers and holding the Midshipmen to 27% from the floor.

In the second, the Midshipmen cut the lead to six (44-38) with 12:23 to play, but Holy Cross went on a 21-2 run to go up 65-40 with 3:54 to play. The Crusaders shot 47% from the field and forced 24 turnovers to hold Navy to 30% for the game.

Nikki Curtis led Navy with a 12-rebound, 10-point performance. Carly Meyer added 12 points for the Midshipmen.

The Crusaders take on American in a 2:00 p.m. match-up with the Eagles on Sunday, January 23.
