2008 is Susie Whelan's second season as an assistant field hockey coach at Holy Cross.

A four-year starter for Holy Cross, Whelan brings her skills and leadership to the other side of the team, assisting head coach Alicia Hawk.

During her senior year at Holy Cross, Whelan was named to the 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-New England Region second team. Whelan tied for second nationally with three penalty strokes, and is tied for fifth all-time at Holy Cross with 20 career assists.

As a junior in 2005, Whelan was named to the All-Patriot League second team and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. She finished with the third-most single-season assists in program history (13 assists) and started all 20 games. Whelan also led the team in both interceptions (104 interceptions) and tackles (64 tackles). She finished the season ranked second on the team and third in the Patriot League in assists. Whelan also ranked fifth on the team in points (13 points) and recorded one defensive save.

As a sophomore in 2004, Whelan started all 19 games and finished the season ranked fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and 10 points. She also finished the year ranked fourth on the team in tackles (31 tackles) and fifth on the team in interceptions (54 interceptions).

During her first season with the Crusaders in 2003, Whelan was the only freshman player to start all 20 games. She finished the season ranked second on the team in interceptions (70) and sixth in tackles (36 tackles). She also recorded three defensive saves.
