Box Score

Providence, R.I. - Scoreless first half efforts by the field hockey team wasn't enough as Providence College beat Holy Cross, 2-0, Wednesday night during a non-conference match up.

Junior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) recorded five saves during her first 35:00 minutes, holding onto a scoreless first half for the Crusaders. The Friars' offensive attack just 1:09 into the second half came up successful as Abby Maguire recovered a rebound of Singleton and into the net, making the score 1-0.

With 8:05 left in the game, Ali Komfield scored for Providence after recovering the ball in front of the net, recording an unassisted goal. Senior Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.) led Holy Cross with two shots on goal.

Singleton recorded nine saves for the game; the Friars' Rachel Chamberlain saved all of the Crusaders' five shots on goal. Providence improved their record to 2-2 while Holy Cross now stands at 1-2 on the season.

The Crusaders will host No. 10 nation-ranked Ohio Friday September, 7 at 4:00 p.m.
