Sara O'Coin netted her third goal of the season verses Colgate

Field Hockey Edged By Colgate, 2-1

Oct. 6, 2007

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Mika Ella-Tang scored the game-winning goal for Colgate with 11:16 left in the game, pushing the Raiders past Holy Cross, 2-1, in a Patriot League game this afternoon. Colgate improves to 6-6 overall while the Crusaders fall to 3-0, both teams now are 1-1 in the league.

Colgate's aggressive ball possession in front of the net paid off with 4:18 left in the first half as a pass from Natalie Plesniarski to Maddie Watrobski opened up a scoring opportunity for Laura Flisnik. Flisnik scored her third goal of the season, putting the ball past Crusader goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) in the low left side of the cage.

The 1-0 Raiders' advantage was erased 13 minutes into the second half as Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) sprinted down into Colgate territory, making a pass to Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.) right in front of the net. O'Coin quickly finished the play, putting the ball past the Raiders' Sarah Pedersen, making the score 1-1.

About nine minutes later, Ella-Tang gave Colgate a 2-1 lead, scoring an unassisted goal on Crusaders' goalkeeper Kelly Casey (New Egypt, N.J.), notching her second goal of the season.

With 2:01 left in the game, the Crusaders had a close scoring call as Lauren Coletta (Mendon, Mass.) came close to tying the game, but the play was ruled as a shot on goal, not a goal.

Singleton had three saves, Casey recorded two, and for Colgate, Pedersen made an impressive 10 saves.

Holy Cross hosts Yale tomorrow for a non-conference contest scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
