WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior Susie Whelan (Acton, Mass.) had the only goal for the Holy Cross field hockey team as American took a 4-1 victory over the Crusaders Saturday and won the right to host the Patriot League Tournament Saturday November 4.

Whelan scored 23:48 into the game on a penalty shot to tie the game at one after American scored minutes prior.

Holy Cross held the tie going into the second half, but American scored three more times to win the game 4-1.

The Eagles out shot the Crusaders 9-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) had three stops for Holy Cross.

American improves to 11-6-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference as Holy cross falls to 12-4 and 4-1 in league play.

Holy Cross will play their last regular season game Sunday at Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. and continue on to the Patriot League Tournament Saturday.
