Holy Cross Softball Falls To UConn

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team fell to Connecticut, 11-0, this afternoon at Freshman Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-10 overall, while the Huskies improve to 14-11 overall.

UConn got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Christine Keeton hit a three-run homer. The Huskies extended their lead to 5-0 in the third, when Jillian Ortega had an RBI double and Holly Calcagno had a RBI single. UConn then went onto score six runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 11-0, including Danielle Del Ponte's two-run single.

Michelle Caouette picked up the victory for the Huskies, allowing three hits in five innings to improve to 5-4 on the season. Junior Lindsey MacNeil (Plymouth, N.H.) took the loss for the Crusaders as she allowed two earned runs in two innings. Senior Megan Lally (Lake Forest, Calif.), sophomore Jayme Elliott (Gardena, Calif.) and sophomore Amanda Webster (Kenmore, N.Y.) each had a single and went one for two at the plate for Holy Cross.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., to face Army in a four-game series in Patriot League action. Each doubleheader will start at 1:00 p.m.
