Holy Cross Competes In Fairfield Doubles Festival

Fairfield, Conn. - The Crusaders started out their season competing at the Fairfield University Doubles Festival on Saturday. There were three flights each with two pools, playing round robin.

In flight one, senior Meg Moran and sophomore Kristen Meahl started off their season well, beating Providence 8-6 in their first match. The Holy Cross duo also played two more matches against the University of Connecticut and Fairfield. They fell to both, being defeated by Connecticut 8-0 and Fairfield 8-5, to take third place in their pool.

In flight two, sophomore Ivette Konopka and junior Paige Brown took on Providence in their first match, winning 8-4. They went on to play Connecticut and Fairfield, where they were defeated 8-3 and 8-2, to finish third in their pool as well.

Flight three included Holy Cross freshman Chase Fitzsimmons and sophomore Kathryn Wilkie. They started off their season defeating Providence 9-7 and then defeating Fairfield 9-7. They then moved on to the semi finals where they took on Quinnipiac, but they were not able to hold them off and were defeated 8-0. Also in this flight were sophomores Hallie Lange and Megan Manahan who took on Connecticut and were defeated 8-3.

The Crusaders compete again on September 16th at Merrimack in North Andover, Mass. The start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
