Saturday Results

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Holy Cross women's track and field team attended the Patriot League Championships this weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Crusaders finished in fourth place scoring a total of 78 points and beating out Navy, Lehigh, Colgate and American. Army won the meet with 148 points.

Holy Cross' top finisher was Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) who won the 400-meter hurdles with a new school record time of 1:02.49, qualifying her for the ECAC Championship and giving her an automatic qualification into the NCAA Regionals. She was followed in the race by Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) who picked up a third place finish with a time of 1:02.86. Meder would also place second in the 100-meter hurdles with a new school record time of 14.47.

Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) would continue to have a strong season with a third place finish in the 100-meter dash and a second place finish in the 200-meter dash. Her 200-meter time of 24.79 was Holy Cross' first sub-25 second effort ever in the event. Reid, along with M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.), Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) and Meder, would also break the school record in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.98 for a third place finish.

The 4x400-meter relay, comprised of Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.), Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Mass.), Sophia Grammenos (Gardner, Mass.) and Pruszko, would likewise break the school record, shattering it by nearly three seconds with a time of 3:52.72. This would earn them a third place finish in the meet. The 4x800-meter relay, run by Katie Clay (Beverly, Mass.), Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.), Christine Carifio (Haverhill, Mass.) and Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) would also finish third with an ECAC qualifying mark of 9:10.89.

Other top finishes belonged to Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.), who finished third in the heptathlon; Bautista, who jumped to a third place finish in the pole vault; the duo of Tallon and Courtney, who finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 400-meter dash; Clay, who finished fourth in the 1500-meter run; and Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) and Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.), who placed fifth and sixth in the javelin throw.

Holy Cross returns to action this coming weekend when it heads to Durham, N.H., for the New England Championship.
