Volleyball Defeated By Siena, 3-1

Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Siena, 3-1, on Saturday night in the final match of the Crusader Classic at the Hart Center. The Crusaders are now 0-3 on the season, while the Saints improve to 1-2. Siena won by scores of 32-34, 30-18, 30-28, 30-22. In the previous match Binghamton defeated St. John's, 3-2.

Sophomore Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) had a big match for Holy Cross as she led the offense with a match high 25 kills and she was also second on team with 12 digs. Strawson also led the team with four service aces. Senior captain Caitlin O'Callaghan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched nine kills and junior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) added to her solid performance all tournament long with a career high 38 assists.

Siena was led by Christie Gustafson with 24 kills and April London who tallied 54 assists.

Strawson and Fanning earned spots on the Crusader Classic All-Tournament Team, along with Ashley Meffert (Binghamton), Gustafson (Siena), Nadiege Honore (Siena) and Shameka Mitchell (St. John's).

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on Sacred Heart on Wednesday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m.
