Volleyball Falls To Rhode Island, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Rhode Island, 3-0, by scores of 30-10, 30-23 and 30-21, in the first match of the Crusader Classic at the Hart Center. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-4 overall, while the Rams improve to 2-5 overall. The tournament continues on Friday as Rhode Island takes on Buffalo at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Patriot League contest between Army and Holy Cross. The Crusader Classic concludes with three matches on Saturday.

Junior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) led the Crusaders with 11 kills and she added nine digs. Senior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) recorded 25 assists, while senior libero Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with 14 digs. Freshman Elizabeth Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) had a solid match with eight kills, while junior Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) was strong at the net with five total blocks.

The Rams were led by Inga Schlecht's 10 kills and .625 hitting percentage, and Kaira Kachadurian's 43 assists. Ivy Zuidhof had a .667 hitting percentage with eight kills on 12 attempts. Leslie Wiekamp led the Rhode Island defense with 15 digs.
