Holy Cross Volleyball Defeats Coppin State, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) recorded 19 kills and 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Coppin State, 3-0, by scores of 30-26, 30-20 and 30-21 on Friday night, at the Crusader Classic at the Holy Cross Field House. Strawson now has 1,051 career kills and is 13 away from breaking the school record. The record of 1,063 career kills is held by Caitlin Agostinacchio (2001-2004). With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-5 overall, while the Eagles fall to 0-3 overall.

Junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) led Holy Cross defensively with 11 digs, while she also added six service aces. Freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) registered 33 assists, while senior Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) chipped in with six kills and three service aces.

Coppin State was led by Indira Laurencin's 11 kills, while Shawdae Wilkes had 14 assists.

The Crusader Classic continues on Saturday with four matches. At 10:00 a.m., Hartford will play Coppin State, while at 12:30 p.m., Holy Cross will take on Loyola (Md.). Loyola will then meet Coppin State at 4:30 p.m. and the tournament will conclude with a match between Holy Cross and Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
