Christine Strawson Sets Holy Cross Career Kills Record

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) broke the Holy Cross record for career kills as she recorded 22 against Loyola (Md.), giving her 1,073 career kills. Loyola defeated the Crusaders, 3-2, by scores of 30-23, 30-24, 25-30, 19-30 and 15-9 on Saturday afternoon at the Crusader Classic at the Holy Cross Field House. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-6 overall, while the Greyhounds improve to 5-6 overall. The record was held by Caitlin Agostinacchio (2001-2004) who had 1,063 kills.

Strawson also had nine digs in the match, while freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a career best 45 assists. Junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) led Holy Cross defensively with 18 digs and senior Katie Fitzpatrick (Queensbury, N.Y.) led the team with four service aces. Sophomores Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) and Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) each had solid matches with 11 and nine kills respectively.

Loyola was led by Karlee Woodward's 18 kills and Chrissey Cruz's 53 assists.

The Crusader Classic concludes tonight with two matches. Loyola will meet Coppin State at 4:30 p.m. and Holy Cross will take on Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
