Volleyball Drops Two At N.E. Challenge

Cambridge, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Boston College and Harvard on Saturday at the New England Challenge, hosted by Harvard. The Crusaders lost both matches by a 3-0 score as the Eagles won by scores of 30-18, 30-16, 30-26, while the Crimson won by scores of 30-20, 30-23, 30-26. With the losses, the Crusaders fall to 1-6 on the season.

In the Boston College match, sophomore Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) led the team in kills with 13 and had seven digs. Junior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) passed out 21 assists and had two service aces. Kelsey Johnson led the Boston College offense with 14 kills, while Verena Rost had 22 assists for the Eagles.

Strawson and freshman Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) each had nine kills in the Harvard match. Fanning registered double digits in assists with a match high 29 and digs with 11. Harvard's Katie Turley-Molony had a match high 14 kills, while Sarah Cebron had 26 assists.

Strawson was named to the New England Challenge All-Tournament team.

The Crusaders return to action when they host the Providence College Friars at the Hart Center on Wednesday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m.
