HC Volleyball Falls To Providence In Five Games

WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded a career high 58 assists and 21 digs for her second double-double of the season, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Providence, 3-2, by scores of 30-27, 30-28, 28-30, 28-30 and 15-5 on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Holy Cross Field House. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-8 overall, while the Friars improve to 5-4 overall.

Numerous other Crusaders also had career nights as sophomore outside hitter Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) registered a career best 25 kills, while sophomore Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) had a career-high 14 kills and freshman Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) had a career-best 12 digs. Junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) was strong defensively with 17 digs. Senior outside hitter Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) had 11 kills as three Holy Cross players had double-digit kills and three players had double-digit digs. Senior Katie Fitzpatrick (Queensbury, N.Y.) earned five service aces, while senior middle hitter Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) led the team with four total blocks.

The Friars were led by Jeanette Toney's 27 kills and Sara Sheehan's 46 assists.

The Crusaders return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 14-15, when they travel to Durham, N.H., for the New Hampshire Tournament. On Friday, Holy Cross will face tournament host New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday the Crusaders will meet Southern Methodist at 10:00 a.m. and Syracuse at 4:30 p.m.
