HC Falls To Central Connecticut, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) recorded 18 kills but it was not enough as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut State, 3-0, by scores of 32-30, 30-18 and 30-25, in non-conference action this evening at the Hart Center. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-10 overall, while the Blue Devils improve to 6-4 overall.

Strawson has now posted double-digit kills in 11 of 12 matches this season. Senior libero Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas) had a strong defensive match with 12 digs, while senior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 37 assists and nine digs. Freshman Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) reached double-digit kills for the third straight match and fourth time this season with 10 kills, while fellow freshman Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) chipped in with eight kills.

The Blue Devils were led by Amanda Olmstead's nine kills and 14 digs, while Sara Grona also posted nine kills. Brynn Good had a solid match with 43 assists and Ashlee Gonzales was strong at net with five total blocks.

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, September 20, when they host Bucknell in Patriot League action at 7:00 p.m.
