HC Drops Five-Game Match To Navy, 3-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) recorded 22 kills, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Navy, 3-2, by scores of 31-33, 30-20, 37-35, 28-30 and 15-11 in Patriot League action on Friday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-19 overall (0-8 Patriot League), while the Mids improve to 16-8 overall (5-3 Patriot League). Auger has registered double-digit kills in 12 matches this season.

Senior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) also had an outstanding match as she earned her seventh double-double of the season with 17 kills and 15 digs, while senior Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) had 10 kills as she was the third Crusader to record double-digit kills in the match. Merinder also added a team best five blocks. Junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) tied Strawson with the lead in digs with 15, while freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dished out 49 assists and had four blocks.

The Mids were led by Rachel Dougherty's 29 kills and Marissa Watson's 71 assists.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, October 20 when they travel to Washington, D.C., to take on Patriot League opponent American at 2:00 p.m.
