Holy Cross Competes at Connecticut College Invitational

Waterford, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's cross country team took fifth place in the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness State Park. Freshman Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) had another strong race with a 21st place individual finish. She lead the women's team to a fifth place finish. Senior Timothy Murphy (Wayne, N.J.) again paced the Crusader men who took 12th place as a team.

Alizzi's time of 19:12 in the 5K race helped the Crusaders take fifth place. Other Crusader women who placed included sophomore Christie Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) in 19:43 and junior Megan Hyland (Rye, N.Y.) in 19:44. The two finished in 34th and 35th, respectively, as the rest of the field included Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.) and Kathleen O'Gorman (West Hartford, Conn.).

Murphy (26:24) and junior John Ortolani (Williamsville, N.Y.) lead the men's team. Ortolani's time was 26:26. Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.), Stephen Kress (Portland, Maine) and Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the men.

The Crusader women finished with 178 points for the fifth place finish in a field of 22 teams. With 347 points the men took 12th out of 24 teams.

Next on the schedule for both teams is the Fitchburg Invitational in Fitchburg, Mass. The event will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16th.
