Holy Cross Cross Country Starts Strong At Blue Devil Invitational

Men's Team Scores: 1. Holy Cross 25; 2. Central Connecticut 31.

Women's Team Scores: 1. University of Connecticut 15; 2. Holy Cross 43; 3. Central Connecticut 81.

New Britain, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams started off their season strong with second place finishes Saturday morning at the Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University.

Leading the men's team, freshman Kyle Rougeot finished second with a time of 26:53 in the individual five mile race. Following Rougeot was the Crusaders' sophomore Tim Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) with a time of 26:59. Placing fifth was junior Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) with a time of 27:49, placing seventh with a time of 28:31 for Holy Cross was junior Kevin Lucid (New Providence, N.J.), and closing out the top five best times for the men's team was sophomore Garrett Huddy (Pataskala, Ohio) placing eight with a time of 28:32.

For the women's team, sophomore Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) placed sixth with a time of 19:20. Following with seventh placed was freshman Rose Calvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finishing at 19:26. Closing out the top five for the Crusaders' was junior Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) placed ninth with a time of 19:35, junior Alexandra Swiatoch (Mahopac, N.Y.) placed tenth with a time of 19:39 placing, and freshman Suzanne Wallace (Stony Brook, N.Y.) who placed eleventh with a time of 19:43.

Overall, the men finished with 25 points, taking first place with host Central Connecticut finishing behind the Crusaders with 31 points. The women tallied 43 points grabbing second place behind the University of Connecticut with 15 points and beating out host Central Connecticut who posted 81 points.

Both Holy Cross teams will be competing in the Fordham Invitational on Saturday, September 8, in the Bronx, N.Y. The start time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
